113 SPADONA DA TAGLIO

Large green leaves forming a voluminous elongated head around 40 cm high that turns a white colour of its own accord. To be eaten in salads. SOWING: for vigorous heads, best sown between June and August directy outdoors in rown 35-45 cm apart. Harvest in autumn-winter. 

110 CATALOGNA PUNT. FOGLIA

       STRETTA SEL. BASENTANA

Erect plant with narrow leaves that are long and tapered, forming a compact head. SOWING: directly outdoors from April to October, in rows 35/40 cms. apart on a ligh soil that has been well- tilled and fertilized.

Long leaves with sharply serrated edges, dark green with thick white ribs. Forms a long, bulky, upright head reaching a height of 40-50 cm. SOWING: can be sown throughout the year except in winter, with successive sowings to extend the harvesting period.

127 CATALOGNA 

     PUNTARELLE DI GAETA

A premature plant of medium size and with an erect bearing.  A plant with long narrow dark green leaves, whitish veins, and irregular margins.  During  winter  new buds with a medium to small diameter grow in the head. These buds are long and tender. Sowing: It has to be planted during summer, and for best results it should be planted in July.  Transplantation takes place one month after the seeding process, at a distance of 40 cm between the rows and 30 cm on the row.

      PUNT. DI GALATINA

It is a big plant with an erect bearing.   A plant with long narrow green  leaves with white veins and irregular margins.  During  winter , new tasty buds called "puntarelle" (small tips)  grow in the head. These "puntarelle"  are fairly large but short.  The small tips are numerous and they form a compact sort of pine cone. Semina: It  needs be planted during summer  and for best results it should be planted in July.  Transplantation takes place one month after the seeding process, at a distance of 40 cm between the rows and 30 cm on the row.

A special variety with a leafy head that forms a compact red ball that is crunchy and firm with an excellent flavour. The plants close to form compact heads, in a similar way to cabbage lettuces. Recently, red chicory has become very popular with consumers for flavouring and livening up salads and side dishes. Low temperatures are required in order to achieve bright red, compact balls. SOWING: in order to obtain robust heada, sow directly outdoors in June- August, in rows 30-35 cm. apart.

119 VARIEGATA DI  

      CASTELFRANCO

Voluminous elongated compact round head. The base produces very strong wide roundish leaves with slightly serrated edges. The head, thanks to forced growing (under covers of various kinds) takes an a variegated mother of pearl colour and has a crunchy consistency. It is very productive and resistant to aestivation, and with its non-bitter taste it is ideal for salads. SOWING: in order to obtain vigorous heads sow directly in the ground in rows spaced 30-35 cm apart in July-August for cutting at the end of autumn-winter.

117 ROSSA DI CHIOGGIA 3

Medium-early variety that grows quickly during the early growing stages. Large bright-red head, well protected even on ripening by green-red outer leaves. Excellent variety that stands out in terms of colour and uniformity with a very high hooded percentage 300-350 gr sized. SOWING: in July-August for picking in the autumn-winter. 

118 ROSSA DI VERONA

This is a special selection of Rossa di Verona. The plants is very robust, a late variety for January – February harvesting. It forms a large ball that is hard and dense, bright red colour with white veins. Excellent level of uniformity when ripe. Use in salads. SOWING: this is an early that can be sown from June to July. Sow in rows 35/40 cm apart on a light soil that has been well tilled and fertilized.

121 ZUCCHERINA DI

     TRIESTE

Wide, round green-blonde leaves with slight light-coloured veins. The leaves, tender and tasty, must be cut at the foot and after cutting grow again quickly. SOWING: to obtain tender leaves, it is best to sow in staggered fashion, densely in all seasons. Suitable for force cutting, can be cultivated under plastic tunnels.

120 ROSSA DI TREVISO

It's an early variety which provides a compact head with long leaves of red and white color. To have a very light white color you can put the sproutings underground covered with straw. Use raw in mixed salads for color and a sharp tangy flavor contrast. SOWING: to obtain vigorous heads directly in rows spaced 30-35 cm apart in July-August for cutting at the end of autumn-winter.

122 PAN DI ZUCCHERO

Rustic and easy to grow plant. Erect, thin and long leaves, dark green in colour. The leaves are cut at the foot, almost to land level, and after cutting quickly grow again. They have a pleasant though rather bitter taste. SOWING: to obtain tender leaves, it is best to sow in staggered  fashion, densely in all seasons. 

125 GRUMOLO VERDE

Very rustic plant. Large and tender root. Thick leaves with velvety appearance, rounder with smooth edges, medium green colour, arranged like rosettes or heads. Very tasty, suited for both winter and spring consumption. SOWING: in June-August. Head formed in spring new  shoots. Sown in spring, used as chicory for cutting.

124 DI TIPO WITLOOF

     DI BRUXELLES

Sowing is made from April to June in 35-40 cm. apart in rows and by using 2 gr./mq. It produces large and long roots. The crisp and white leaves are cooked or eaten fresh. SOWING: from april to June in rows 35-40 cm apart. 1-2 grammes of seeds for m2 ann then leaving 10 plants in a 1 m of row. 

123 MANTOVANA

Light-green oval-shaped head, wide outer wrap-around leaves and inner leaves completely white, forming an average-length heart, compact and crispy. SOWING: broadcast or in rows in June-July for picking in autumn.

115 GRECA

This is an unusual selection of typical, native plants that retain all their traditional rustic qualities and organoleptic properties. This variety has a medium-sized head and dark green, jagged-edged leaves with deep red stems. Even the seedlings have jagged leaves, so they can also be used fresh. SOWING: we recomand sowing from spring onwards to avoid the risk of early flowering. Sow throughout the year if using fresh. 

114 MISCUGLIO DI CICORIE

      E RADICCHI

A mix of various types of chicory and radicchio that produces different coloured leaves. Particularly resistant to the cold and suitable for cutting as plants grow again quickly. SOW: sow broadcast throughout the year, using 3 g of seed to smare metre.

126 SELVATICA DA CAMPO

A practically perennial plant. Forms a fairly large creeping head with long leaves, bright green colour, very tender, crispy and tasty. Eaten raw; it is good for the health and cleansing. SOWING: broadcast or in rows between June and October. Various cuts can be made at time of picking.
