Marjoram is a suffrutex that grows to a height of 40-50 cm. The stem is pubescent, quadrangular and branched with opposing, small oval leaves that are a greysh colour and tomentose. The roots are fascicled and slender. The flowers are sessile and are white with shades of red. They are grouped together in spike-shaped inflorescences on the tips of the secondary branches. Cultivation in our environments lasts between 4-5 years. Marjoram is widely used in cooking to flavor dishes. Furthermore, it has digestive and diuretic properties. SOWING: directly at the end of March.

Melissa is an herbaceous perennial, 50-90 cm tall. It has branched, erect, quadrangular stems. The leaves are oval and serrated and grow opposed on the plant. The flowers (which are either red or white) grow near the steam of the leaves. The crop usually lasts 4-5 years but does very occasionally last up to 8 year.

SOWING: is used sown towards the end of winter in a greenhouse (heated to a temperature of 20-25 °C during the first 3 weeks and 12-16 °C thereafter). Transplant in May or June

Oregano is a perennial and can reach a height of 50 cm. The reddish-coloured stem tends to have few branches or thorns. The oval-shaped leaves (2-3 cm by 1,5 cm) have short stalks which are approximately 1 cm long. The leaves are occasionally serrated. Its small flowers are bunched closely together and form flat panicles. The plant’s aroma varies depending on where it is cultivated: the oregano grown in southern Italy (widely used as seasoning), has a much stronger aroma than the oregano grown in northern Italy. This evergreen shrub, which grows to a height of almost 1 m, has sweet-smelling leaves and upward-growing branches. During the fine season, it is almost always in bloom. The upper lip is whole or with three small teeth. The interior is divided into two long teeth. The corolla is light violet in colour. There are two protrusions which protrude from the corolla. SOWING: in a seedbed at the end of winter. The seedlings must then be transplanted in rows 50-60 cm apart.

Thymus Vulgaris L.

Thyme grows to a height between 20 and 50 cm. The leaves are pointed, have curved edges and are grey-green in colour. The flowers are small, tubular and are red-violet in colour. They group together where the leaves join the stem.

SOWING: the seeds should be sown in a greenhouse during March; the plant is in blossom from June to September.
